Samsung’s latest flagship Android smartphone, the Galaxy S III, is now up for pre-order in the UK via three of the country’s largest wireless carriers, namely O2, Three and Vodafone.
The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich-powered handset can now be seen available for pre-order at O2 UK for free specific Pay Monthly plans.Depending on the tariff they choose, however, users might end up to paying £299.99 for the smartphone.
The wireless carrier notes on its pre-order page that Galaxy S III is set to arrive on shelves at the end of May, but does not offer a specific release date for it.Both the Marble White and Pebble Blue flavors of the high-end device are listed over at O2, so that users would have more choices when it comes to making a purchase.
Three UK was one of the first operators in the country to announce plans for ranging the new handset, and also among the first to add it to its website.
Users interested in getting the device with contracts on Three’s network would have to head over to their nearest store to place pre-orders for the device.
At the same time, they can also head to the carrier’s website and enter their name and email address so as to receive details on when the mobile phone will become available for purchase.
Vodafone also confirmed plans to launch the new GALAXY S III, but it put the smartphone up for reservations only now.
The carrier will have exclusivity on the 32GB variant of Galaxy S III, and users heading to its pre-order page will be presented with the option to acquire either this variant, or the 16GB model.
At Vodafone, the handset will go for free on monthly plans that start at £41 per month. Its price goes up to £149 when a £26 per month plan is selected.

Videotron customers rejoice as the carrier has just announced the upcoming availability of the Samsung Galaxy S III on its airwaves. The smartphone is expected to arrive on Videotron’s 4G network “in time for the summer.” Although there are no details on Galaxy S III’s availability, pricing options and specifications, there are speculations that point to a June release in North America.
The only thing that we’re still not sure of is the phone’s full specs sheet. Unlike the international variant of Galaxy S III, the North American version is likely to come with LTE support.
However, given the fact that the Exynos 4212 Quad chipset equipped inside the Galaxy S III does not feature LTE support, Samsung will have to replace it with another all-in-one solution, possibly manufactured by another company. The rest of the features will probably remain the same, including a large 4.8-inch Super AMOLED (Pentile) capacitive touchscreen with HD (720 x 1280 pixels) resolution, which features Corning Gorilla Glass 2 coating.
There’s a high chance that Videotron will get the 16GB Galaxy S III model, as the 32GB and 64GB versions will be released a bit later.
In addition, the smartphone will come packed with 1GB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 64GB).
Software-wise, Galaxy S III will be delivered with a slew of innovative apps and services, such as S-Voice natural language commands and dictation, S Beam, Direct call, as well as Smart Stay eye tracking.
Last but not least, Samsung Galaxy S III owners will be provided with 50 GB of free cloud storage via Dropbox.
“Videotron is thrilled to be releasing this exceptional handset for its customers, enhancing its device selection with the addition of a superior-quality phone,” said Marie Ginette Lepage, vice president, Product Development at Videotron.

Although Samsung was expected to unveil the Galaxy S III about three months ago at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the South Korean company said it would make an announcement during a separate launch event.Samsung’s decision affected some of the US-based carriers’ roadmaps for Q1/Q2 2012, or at least on them. Unveiled back in January at the International Consumer Electronics Show, Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket HD was slated for an AT&T release.
However, this never happened due to various reasons and those wondering whether the smartphone is still on track for an AT&T launch will be disappointed to hear that Samsung has decided to cancel the Galaxy S II Skyrocket HD.
This doesn’t come as a surprise, especially in light of the recent Galaxy S III official announcement, which is expected to arrive in the United States this summer.Although Samsung did not disclose any details regarding the Galaxy S III availability and pricing in North America, we expect almost all carriers will add the smartphone to their portfolios at some point.
Most Canadian operators already confirmed they would carry the Samsung Galaxy S III, though none has made any comments on the phone’s exact release date or specs sheet.
Given the fact that Samsung may introduce the Galaxy S III in the States as early as June, we see no point in launching another device that might have no real impact on the smartphone market.
The Galaxy S II Skyrocket HD is inferior to the Galaxy S III in all aspects. The former comes with a slightly smaller 4.65-inch Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720 x 1280 pixels) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass coating.
It was supposed to be shipped with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread out of the box, with the possibility to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich platform at some point.

Sony unveiled its first Xperia NXT series devices earlier this year and already made it available on the market in most regions.Announced a bit later than Xperia S, P and U, Sony Xperia sola is about to make its debut in various countries. We already reported that the smartphone is up for pre-order in the UK and Australia.
Although most authorized resellers claim the Xperia sola is expected to hit shelves in mid-May, the phone’s availability is likely to depend on location.
The good news is that Android enthusiasts living in India will be able to purchase the Sony Xperia sola from May 18. At least two leading retailers are now offering the handset for pre-order for as low as Rs 20,000 (370 USD or 285 EUR) outright. The Xperia sola is a mid-range Android phone, which comes with a unique Floating touch technology that allows users to control some of the phone’s features without having to touch the display.
Even though the handset is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, the Xperia has been confirmed for an Ice Cream Sandwich update in Q2 2012.
Hardware-wise, Sony Xperia sola is not among the most powerful devices on the market, but it won’t let down either.
The phone is equipped with a dual-core NovaThor U8500 processor clocked at 1 GHz and packs 512MB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory (5GB user available), as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).
There’s also a 5-megapixel rear photo snapper that features autofocus, LED flash and HD (720p) video recording. In the connectivity front, the Xperia sola offers users a slew of options, including NFC capability, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, DLNA and HSDPA.
Sony Xperia sola drains energy from a 1320 mAh Li-Ion battery, which is rated by the manufacturer for up to 470 hours of standby time or up to 6 hours of talk time (5 hours in 3G mode).

Xperia NXT series has just got larger with the addition of two new Android phones, the Xperia GX and Xperia SX. Both smartphones have been specifically designed for the Japanese market, so we won’t be seeing these two outside the country.Obviously, Sony might plan to release international variants for both devices in the following month, but for the time being there are no additional details on the matter.
Anyway, Xperia GX features the same design lines and curved form factor of the Xperia arc, which was launched on the market last year.
Sony Xperia GX comes with a brilliant 4.6-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD resolution and is based on Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine technology.Another strong point of the Xperia GX is the enhanced 13-megapixel rear camera that features Sony Exmor R sensor, autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.
Both devices are equipped with 1.5 GHz dual-core processors, but Xperia GX packs 16GB of internal memory, while the Xperia SX comes with only 8GB onboard memory. There’s no word on any microSD card slot for memory expansion.
Dubbed “world’s lightest LTE smartphone,” Xperia SX weighs only 95g (battery included). The smartphone sports a 3.7-inch Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine and an 8-megapixel rear photo snapper with Sony Exmor R for mobile, HD video recording, and Sony technology to take 3D panoramic images.

According to Sony, the handset will be shipped with Japanese specific features such as infrared port data exchange, mobile wallet and mobile TV.Software-wise, Sony confirmed Xperia GX and Xperia SX will be powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system out of the box.
The smartphones also introduce three apps, which come pre-loaded on Xperia GX and Xperia SX: WALKMAN, Album and Movie.
Sony Xperia GX and Xperia SX will be available in two color options, white and black, from summer 2012.
